Everyone through this room has a identity. Although it's not really something that we were born with. Throughout our lives our identities have transformed and produced as we skilled new things. Copy writer Parker T Palmer perceives identity as when our past experiences of people and places get together to form whom we are at this time. From this we are able to draw that identity is actually a product of your external environment and is firmly influenced by the people & places were constantly encountered with. This concept of identity can be explored in the elegiac composition ‘The Loss of life of the Bird' by A. M Hope and ‘The Window'- a short account by Pham Thi Hoai. Our details are always controlled by change as it is strongly linked to our ever- changing area. This concept of identity is reinforced inside the Death from the Bird by A. D Desire through the change in the feelings of the composition. The poet's diction when he depicts the migrating quest of the parrot as it journeys through the ‘warm passage towards the cooling station' and is ‘sure and properly guided by simply ‘love' emphasises the bird's strong emotional ties to the place where it is supposed to be creating secure and comfortable feeling. However , because the composition progresses the bird gets ‘uncertain of her place' and is described as a ‘vanishing speck in those vano dominions resulting in the strong visual imagery of a tiny, fragile bird juxtaposed to the severe condition of the unfamiliar environment emphasising the bird's weeknesses. The contrast created by this dramatic move in mood exemplifies how identity is because of the place you connect to yet is prone to change once that connection is lost. Similarly in The Window, the unstable character of identity is apparent through the narrator's changing self-identity. Much like the Bird, the narrator in The Window has a solid connection to the place where she is supposed to be. She is constantly looking out her ‘magic evolving window, rotating like a Rubik cube'. Throughout the comparison of her environment into a Rubik cube- a dilemna that can only be solved...
